There are multiple different dosages that are discussed as suitable dosages to be used - this confuses people.
The reason for multiple doses is because :
- It is a 120 year old drug and at different times it was used for different purposes at different dosages
- Given it is an anti bacterial, anti viral and anti fungal it could be used for many different diseases
- When it comes to Methylene Blue, the dosage varies dramatically from person to person this adds to the confusion
Below are a few dosages (from history):

For UTI : 20mg orally thrice a day upto 5 days
For Methemoglobinemia : 1 mg/kg IV over 5-30 minutes; can be repeated after 1 hour if required
Our experience/suggestion
Based on our experience, when used as a nootropic/anti-aging, even lower dosages work wonders. The older a person is, the lower the dose required by the person to see impact. There is an inverse co-relation between age and the quantity required to show effect.
Important
We do not recommend weight based dosages when taking Methylene Blue as a nootropic. Weight based dosages have been extrapolated from Methemoglobinemia dosages. In most cases weight based dosages are much higher than what is actually required when using as a nootropic. High dosages are harmful and can be counter productive. Always begin low and work your way upwards.
Assumption : 1 ml = 20 drops for the dropper you are using; 1 drop = 0.5 mg
What is the dosage we propose

Begin with one drop and work your way upMix 1gram powder in 100 ml lukewarm water to prepare 1% w/v
- Begin with 1 drop per day for the first week as a starting point to rule out any reactions/allergies to Methylene Blue
- After that work your way up by increasing one drop every day(i.e. 0.5mg per day); so in 10 days you will be approximately at 10 drops; i.e. at 5 mg per day
- You can go upto 3ml or 60 drops without any issues, however beyond that it is recommended that you use it under supervision
Contraindication
Do not use it with other anti depressants
Note
- It is always better to split the dose to see impact than increase quantity - what it means is, if you are taking 10mg a day and want to increase dosage, split it into 5mg twice a day and see if it changes anything.
- Some people may have trouble sleeping after Methylene Blue as it activates the mind - so avoid it in late hours - ideally you should take Methylene Blue 7 hours before sleeptime
- Do not mix alcohol and Methylene Blue
- If you take 5 mg a day, then 1 gm will give you 200 days worth of doses
- The higher the dose you take the lesser days it will last. The simple forumla to see how long 1 gm would last is 1000/(daily dose in mg) = No of days it'll last
- Sublingual administration has higher impact (keep in your mouth for 10-20 seconds under the tongue and then swallow it)
- Do not increase dosage if a certain threshold is working for you (always remember, lower is better)
Practical tip
- Direct Methylene Blue on tongue will sting (and make the tongue blue) - so dilute it in a glass of water and swish it in your mouth and keep it there for about 20 seconds before gulping it down
- Powder may have the term - Harmful if swallowed : It only means that the powder needs to be diluted further with water and cannot be taken in its pure form

Fun Fact
Back in the day, Malaria medication containing Methylene Blue had the label ::
Dosage : 1 g. Methylene Blue
Today when people look at the photo, they mistake the g as grams. In fact it is 1 grains. grains was a common measure earlier which equates to about 64 milli-grams. 6 grams of MB can be very harmful.
