Taking Methylene Blue when Breast Feeding is not recommended
There are no trials done/recorded on impact of Methylene Blue on infant during breast feeding;
general recommendation is not to take Methylene Blue while breast
feeding
High doses of Methylene Blue can mix with breast milk and therefore enter the infants system (when nursing). Given the ethical challenges and dilemmas, there is no trial done on its safety for infants (even in small quantities).
The ethical challenge is due to the fact that there is a chance the trial may harm the infant.
However, given that MB administration has shown to cause congenital defects, general guidance accepted by doctors is to not administer Methylene Blue when nursing.
